Our 16-year-old founder, Armando Parrish, and a group of dedicated moms created this nonprofit to raise money to help people currently living on the streets transition to permanent housing. We partner with homeless recovery centers to identify individuals who are ready for our program. We also help people who contact us find a place to stay while figuring out their next step. Besides helping with funding while transitioning to permanent housing, we provide job skills training, mentoring, and job placement services.
The money we raised from our Run for Change Fun Run, helped several people have a safe place to stay while securing a job. After several months of assistance, one lady was able to make enough money to provide for herself. She is so thankful for our program and gives us advice on what people on the streets need.
We also used the proceeds to make care packages to give to those asking for help. A local girl scout troupe assembled over 50 packages for Project Lorenzo, and each took 5 to give to those in need. The girls made cards with words of encouragement to go with the packages of water bottles, socks, snacks, and information about some local homeless shelters.
